About
ABOUT

Byllye Avery is a visionary health activist, educator, and founder of the Black Women’s Health Imperative.
For more than five decades, she has challenged the systems that silence women’s stories and built spaces for healing, advocacy, and community.
Rooted in the belief that Black women must define and prioritize their own health, Avery’s work ignited a national movement toward reproductive justice and self-care.
Her leadership has inspired generations of women to speak truth, organize locally, and transform policy.
From her earliest work in community clinics to her global recognition as a MacArthur Fellow, Avery continues to remind us that health is power.
